This is a pilot project that's going to help us work together to save money, strengthen our community and do more for the environment.
The goal is to make it easier (and probably cheaper and more fun) to take the next steps on the things we want to happen, but don’t do.
West Tytherley has an oil-buying group. By grouping orders, the tanker can deliver on the same day for everyone and we can negotiate a better rate. Not only does this saves the village £thousands each year, but it also saves pollution, traffic, and time.
Before the buying group existed, it crossed many people’s minds that something like it would be probably be cheaper and more efficient — we just didn’t have the time or energy to engage the whole village and organise it.
Which begs the question: What other opportunities are there out there which we could all be benefitting from if we just made it easier?
This is a pilot, so the plan is to make the plan.

Firstly let’s look at the statement that doing things at a village scale is reasonably straightforward. Sure it ‘only’ takes time and perseverance: there’s a small number of people in a village, how hard can it be? As anyone who’s tried it will tell you, it can be really, really difficult and very, very annoying. But yes, if you have a zest for a mission and time on your hands, you can get things done.
Though… what if you have a zest for a mission, but like everyone else don’t have much time to spare for something speculative? Or if you have a lot of time, but have run low on zest? Or you have a great idea and enough time, but don’t have the knowledge or confidence to take it to the next stage? Are we happy that these ideas, ambitions, and people’s enthusiasm should die-on-the-vine simply because we can’t work out how to cultivate projects? That seems a shame to me.
